Introduction of the LeaP-Quest

Since the time of the Industrial Revolution, atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased by a worrisome 43%. On a global scale, this is a significant change. Human activities emit 29 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year, and most of this derives from the burning of fossil fuels for energy.

Students will be able to explore the concept of carbon footprint, its relationship with our daily life, activities and how it affects climate change. They will also explore the relationship between global warming and carbon footprint.

Problem Statements of the LeaP-Quest

Task - 1 (Game Making for Friends & Parents)

You have been appointed as a community leader in your school and have been made an ambassador for parents and common public to sensitize them on reducing carbon footprint.

Many parents think they know everything and are not open to listening to lectures, especially from their children. So you have been asked to design a special game for parents to sensitize them on carbon footprint. You can work in teams of 4 to 5 students.

The game should demonstrate about:-

  • The connection between real-life activities and carbon footprint.
  • Habits that can reduce our carbon footprint.

(You may make an animation, Quiz game, Interactive game, etc)

Task - 2 (Small Steps, Huge Impact)

Small steps, huge impact: List 10 activities in your school that are adding to your school’s carbon footprint. Find some actionable ways ( at least 5)  to reduce the carbon footprint at your school. Make a presentation for your SMC to demonstrate how these ways can be an effective sustainable drive/ plan for minimizing your school’s carbon footprint.

You can consider the following areas but not limited to:

Switch to renewable energy
  • Recycle
  • Water savings
  • Mid-day meal
  • Build eco-friendly habits
  • Think green
  • Compost
  • Eliminate single use of plastic
  • Alternative transportation

Task - 3

As you are aware that the burning of coal, natural gas, and oil is used to get electricity and heat and is very much responsible for greenhouse gas emissions.

You are newly appointed as general manager of a Thermal Power Station:-

  • Work in a group of max 5-6 students and design a plan or an interactive model about possibilities of switching to renewable/green electricity (Make necessary assumptions as required)
  • Bonus Task: If your plan is able to generate more than the required amount of electricity then what will you do with the excess of the electricity produced.

 Task & Problem Satement - 4

Find out the carbon emission of your country for the last 5 years happened due to the transport sector. Please make a strategic plan or model to move the transportation sector to carbonless emission.

Your plan may consider the following areas but not limited to:

  • • Explore emerging technology for vehicles which emit very less or no carbon and can be used as alternatives to existing vehicles.
  • • Cleaner Fuel option other Diesel and Petrol or Gasoline.
  • • Your own Ideas, suggestions or Solutions that can be used as modification/alternative with the existing Vehicles.
