Introduction
Since the time of the Industrial Revolution, atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased by a worrisome 43%. On a global scale, this is a significant change. Human activities emit 29 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year, and most of this derives from the burning of fossil fuels for energy.
Students will be able to explore the concept of carbon footprint, its relationship with our daily life, activities and how it affects climate change. They will also explore the relationship between global warming and their carbon footprint.
Problem Statement - 1 (Temperature)
Find out the average temperature of your district for the month of May over the last/past 10 years.
- What has been the average percentage increase or decrease every year?
- Use a spreadsheet to demonstrate the temperature of the last 10 years. Predict what will be the range of temperature in your district in the month of May in 2071.
- Bring in your answer with an explanation to share with your team.

Problem Statement - 2 (Small Steps, Huge Impact)
Small steps, huge impact: List 10 activities in your school that are adding to your school’s carbon footprint. Find some actionable ways ( at least 5) to reduce the carbon footprint at your school. Make a presentation for your SMC to demonstrate how these ways can be an effective sustainable drive/ plan for minimizing your school’s carbon footprint.
You can consider the following areas but not limited to:
Switch to renewable energy- Recycle
- Water savings
- Mid-day meal
- Build eco-friendly habits
- Think green
- Compost
- Eliminate single use of plastic
- Alternative transportation

You are newly appointed as general manager of a Thermal Power Station:-
- Work in a group of max 5-6 students and design a plan or an interactive model about possibilities of switching to renewable/green electricity (Make necessary assumptions as required)
- Bonus Task: If your plan is able to generate more than the required amount of electricity then what will you do with the excess of the electricity produced.
