Introduction

This WebQuest aims to let students explore, experience and connect the happenings of everyday lives with the science of chemicals: chemical reaction, the kind of chemicals used/involved in different situations .

Recording of the live session Day 1 (WebQuest task explained in English)

Challenge - 1 (News Headlines)

Below are headlines from various newspaper clippings. Identify the main theme and develop a cause-effect-solution model incorporating the elements mentioned above

Headlines from various newspaper clippings

Challenge - 2 (Peanuts)

You and your friend Kumkum are eating peanuts. All of a sudden kumkum starts sneezing, develops a red eye and red patches appear on her skin. but you weren't affected. Now, how would you help your friend? Which chemical or medicine can be useful here. Create artifacts which explain the problem with a suitable solution.

You can also go through  these areas:

  • Identify the problem
  • Market name of those medicines

Challenge - 3 (Production of Oxygen)

In this COVID 19 Pandemic, patients need oxygen to survive. In this regard, your school teacher asked you and your group to produce oxygen in your school chemistry lab. Explore various processes and document your findings to create an artefact. If possible compare few processes.

You can consider the following areas but not limited to:

  • Required chemical combinations to produce oxygen
  • Process and instruments involved or required
  • Effect on environment
  • Cost Effectiveness
  • Volume of production to time required

What would you do to relieve Mina from the pain and treat her finger. Which kind of chemical or medicine would you choose?

Find out the possible effects and side-effects. Create artifacts that explain the problem with a suitable solution.

You can also go through  these areas:

  • Market name of those chemicals and compare the pre-treatment and post-treatment
  • Chemical composition and alternative compositions
  • Comparison of effectiveness
  • Effect of overdose
