A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, service, place or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent. Greenhouse gases, including the carbon-containing gases carbon dioxide and methane, can be emitted through the burning of fossil fuels, the production and consumption of food, manufactured goods, materials, wood, roads, transportation and other services
One major effect of the excessive emission of CO2 is global warming. Global warming has severe negative effects on our environmental system and poses a danger to many animals, plants and also for many people who are at risk of losing their homes. Moreover, global warming may also lead to an increase in the migration problem since the livelihood of many people will be destroyed due to rising sea levels. These people will strive to find alternative living spaces and move to countries that are not that much affected by climate change.
Another effect related to the emission of CO2 is air pollution. Through industrial processes and also through our daily use of cars, we emit large amounts of harmful gases into the air, including CO2 which increases our carbon footprint.
Heavy rainfall is the biggest contributor to natural flooding. another reason is global warming. Golbal warming cause to melt the glacier and the ice of the mountains rapidly. that cause excecive water and that cuase flood in coastal areas.
Acid rain can also be caused by CO2 emission. The acidity level of rain increases with the amount of CO2 released into the air. Thus, the emission of CO2 can contribute to the acid rain problem to a certain extent.
Some major factors for the creation of Carbon Footprint
Transportation, the movement of goods and persons from place to place and the various means by which such movement is accomplished. The growth of the ability—and the need—to transport large quantities of goods or numbers of people over long distances at high speeds in comfort and safety has been an index of civilization and in particular of technological progress.
Modern transportation relies heavily on petroleum, and passenger cars and light-duty trucks (i.e. sport vehicles, pickup trucks and minivans) contribute the carbon dioxide emissions in transportation sector. Burning one gallon of gasoline creates about 20 pounds of CO2—which means the average vehicle creates roughly 6 to 9 tons of CO2 each year. The transportation sector generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions.
Reducing tips – Reducing the number of trips helps reduce the amount of fuel consumption and emissions. Freight vehicles can combine smaller loads into a single one to reduce trips.
Overall, the most efficient ways to travel are via walking, bicycle, or train. - Using a bike instead of a car for short trips would reduce your travel emissions by ~75%. Taking a train instead of a car for medium-length distances would cut your emissions by ~80%. Over short to medium distances, walking or cycling are nearly always the lowest carbon way to travel.
Tesla Car -- Tesla, Inc. is an American electric vehicle and clean energy company based in Palo Alto, California, United States. Tesla designs and manufactures electric cars, battery energy storage. The reason for the existence of Tesla as a company is simply that Lithium ion batteries have the highest charge capacity of any practical battery formulation in history for the money.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles - Hydrogen derived from water can be used in fuel cell vehicles. When wind- or solar-generated electricity is used to split the water, there is no pollution emitted either during its production or during use of hydrogen in a fuel cell vehicle (only water and a small amount of heat are generated by fuel cells). Hydrogen-fueled vehicles emit virtually no hydrocarbons, particulates, carbon dioxide, or carbon monoxide. They are viewed as an especially attractive option for reducing green house gas emissions. These vehicles are still in the research stage and are not generally available.
Use public transportation – Public transport vehicles carry a large number of people in a single vehicle. In addition, they are cheap and easily accessible. As public transportation is facilitated by the government, hopefully, appropriate green transportation measures must have been taken.
Using Bio – Diesel and electricity to power the logistics vehicleUsing Bio – Diesel and electricity to power the logistics vehicle – As logistics and supply chain vehicles also accounts for environmental pollution, using Eco – friendly fuel and electricity can be a good way to preserve the environment.
Prefer multiple occupant vehicles – Rather than four people using individual vehicle while going in a same direction drive, it is more economical and environmentally-friendly to use one vehicle. As apparent from the scenario, the greenhouse gas emission can be reduced to 1/4th.
